DeSantis names new member to Eastern Florida board
Gov. Ron DeSantis on May 29 announced the appointment of Michael DeMorat and the reappointments of Bruce Deardoff and Dr. Edgar Figueroa to the Eastern Florida State College District Board of Trustees.
All three appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. Under Florida law, the governor makes appointments to college boards in staggered four-year terms.
All five members of the Board have now been appointed by Gov. DeSantis after Dr. Kristine Zonka was appointed last year along with chairman Ronald Howse, who was originally appointed in 2015 by Gov. Rick Scott.
DeMorat, who joins the board as a new member, serves as Chief Deputy of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. He has been a member of the FBI National Academy Associates, the Space Coast Early Intervention Center Board of Directors, and the Serene Harbor Domestic Violence Shelter Board of Directors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Florida.
Deardoff, returning to the board, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Deardoff Automotive Group. He has served on the Civilian Military Foundation of Brevard County and the Canaveral Port Authority. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Fordham University.
Figueroa, also returning to the board, is a physician and surgeon at Omni Health Care and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He previously served as a trauma surgeon at Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center. Figueroa graduated from the University of Puerto Rico and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Universidad Central del Este.
