State agencies, law enforcement personnel, and private partners have launched widespread recovery operations across Northwest Florida following Hurricane Isaias, state officials announced Monday.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida Department of Commerce Secretary Alex Kelly met at a Walmart in Pensacola to outline recovery resources now open to residents. During the briefing, officials highlighted a $1 million commitment of funding and supplies from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation, which includes free hot meals, mobile showers, laundry units, Wi-Fi, and device charging stations stationed throughout the Panhandle.

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. Wind gusts reached up to 116 mph in parts of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. As of 1 p.m. Monday, utility crews had restored electricity to more than 70% of impacted customer accounts.

To supply basic essentials, nine state Points of Distribution are operating in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Walton, and Washington counties, handing out bottled water, nonperishable food, and emergency goods. In Century, the Florida Department of Children and Families opened a comfort center at 150 East Pond Street featuring showers, restrooms, laundry setups, cooling tents, food, and water.

Emergency response teams remain active throughout the disaster zone. The Florida National Guard activated roughly 5,000 soldiers and airmen, clearing more than 1,700 miles of roadway, distributing thousands of relief kits, and assisting with the relocation of 50 residents with special needs. The Florida State Guard deployed nearly 400 soldiers alongside boat and cut-and-toss crews, focusing heavily on flooded areas around the Shoal River.

Law enforcement and transportation teams cleared primary transit corridors quickly. The Florida Department of Transportation confirmed all state-owned bridges have been inspected and reopened, with interstates and major arterial highways cleared within eight hours of landfall. More than 90% of traffic signals in the affected region are working, with 320 operating on backup generators.

Public health officials report boil water notices remain active across seven counties: Escambia, Holmes, Jackson, Santa Rosa, Suwannee, Walton, and Washington. Special needs shelters remain open in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, while Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinics across the area are scheduled to reopen Tuesday.
